Production of the prequel film 'Love Syndrome: The Beginning,' adapted from the popular novel 'รักโคตรๆ โหดอย่างมึง (Love Syndrome)' by Yeo-Nim, has sparked controversy among fans. This is because the film contains elements and a storyline involving assault.
The film, starring Neff Rattanan Sukubol (Day) and Bix Tagon Suwannavej (Itt), is scheduled for simultaneous release in Thai cinemas and on the WeTV app on February 8th.
In the film's synopsis, Day assaults Itt in retaliation for Itt's friend assaulting Day's sibling. Day records the act to blackmail Itt into staying with him. Love begins to blossom between them, but Day denies these feelings. It is only after Itt successfully escapes from Day's home that Day realizes his true feelings of love.
The announcement of the prequel film's production was first made by the social media accounts @NontapatMr and @goldeneyesview on May 21, 2023. This surprised fans as the main characters played by Lee Long Shi (Day) and Frank Thanatsaran (Itt) in 'Love Syndrome III The Series' would not appear in this film.
Some fans express disappointment in the production and screening of a film with a theme of assault. They believe that such a theme is inappropriate for a film, especially one targeted at a general audience.
"How can they make a film with such a theme? It's not suitable for everyone to watch," wrote one individual on X.
"I am disappointed with the director's and producer's decision for this film. They did not consider the impact this film would have," said another fan.
As of the time this article is published, controversial responses continue to flood the comment sections of several social media accounts that also promote the film.
The film's producers, MrNontapat and goldeneyesview, have not yet responded to the protests from fans.
