Choo Young Woo, an actor known for his debut role in the Korean BL drama "You Make Me Dance," recently faced criticism from BL fans. This criticism arose after Choo Young Woo failed to acknowledge his role in the BL drama during his acceptance speech for the Rookie of the Year award at the KBS Drama Awards 2023 held on December 31, 2023.
In his speech, Choo Young Woo only mentioned two television dramas he had starred in, namely "School 2021" and "Police University." There was no mention whatsoever of "You Make Me Dance," which was his first drama aired in 2021.
This surprised and disappointed many BL fans, who felt that Choo Young Woo did not appreciate his own work and the fans of the BL drama who had supported him. Fans' disappointment grew further when Choo Young Woo also deleted photos related to his involvement in the BL project from his Instagram account.
Due to the increasing criticism, Choo Young Woo even disabled comments on his two latest Instagram posts, which were photos of him receiving the Rookie Of The Year award at the KBS Drama Awards. This is believed to be done to avoid negative comments from fans.
As a result of this controversy, fans began comparing Choo Young Woo to several other South Korean BL actors. For example, Jae Chan, an actor and member of the boy group DKZ, received numerous awards for the drama "Semantic Error." Jae Chan proudly showcased his awards by expressing gratitude to the "Semantic Error" team.
In addition to Jae Chan, fans also compared Choo Young Woo to Kim Ji Woong, a member of the Zerobaseone (ZB1) group, who proudly mentioned his role in a BL drama.
As of now, Choo Young Woo has not provided an explanation for his actions.
